Text appears

Pasted at your cursor, in whatever app you’re in.

Everything happens on your Mac.

On-device transcription
Audio is transcribed locally on the Apple Neural Engine. Nothing crosses the network — run Little Snitch and you’ll see silence.
Works in every app
One global hotkey. Mail, Slack, your editor, a web form — if it has a cursor, Jot types there.
Rewrite by voice
Select any text, speak an instruction — “make this friendlier” — and it’s rewritten in place. Uses Apple Intelligence on-device by default.
Speak your prompts
Long AI prompts are painful to type. Dictate them straight into ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor — and Rewrite can reshape a rambling thought into a clean, structured prompt.
Searchable history
Every dictation is saved locally. Replay the audio, search transcripts, re-transcribe with a different model.
On your iPhone, too
Jot Transcribe is a free dictation keyboard for iPhone. Switch to it from any app, tap Dictate, and speak into the field you’re in. Same rules as the Mac: no account, no cloud, nothing leaves the device.
Free. Actually free.
MIT-licensed and open source. No subscription, no usage limits, no account. Your Mac already has the hardware — Jot just puts it to use.

No cloud. No account. No telemetry.

The leading dictation apps charge $144 a year and route your voice through their servers. Jot costs nothing and runs on your Mac’s Neural Engine. Optional AI features default to Apple Intelligence on-device; cloud providers are strictly opt-in, with your own key. Read the source — it’s all there.

Install in under a minute.

On the Mac, the setup wizard walks you through permissions, the model download, and a test dictation. On iPhone, it’s a keyboard — enable it and dictate into any app.
